The BEach
Material: water color and ink on paper
Ideas behind: This painting is aimed at showing the gap between the rich and the poor. For the upper part, the beach part, I used ink and bright colors to demonstrate a more delightful and easy atmosphere. And for the ocean part, I used water color and a darker tone to create a contrast. The wave is a metaphor of a division between these two completely different groups of people though whose aims match with each other: to live a better material life.
A closer look
Under Cameras
Material: ink and marker on paper
Ideas behind: This painting is divided into a lot of small scenes while actually all of them are live recordings with surveillances. The area has been covered with countless cameras already. Some of them are obvious, found and broke by people live there while some of them are still hidding in the corner, under plants, or on the staircase. I tried to mimic a computer moniter by adding stuffs like a pop-ups and a real-time map, as if the water himself/herself is the one who control over this unknown family. In our times, this situation could be happening at anytime around us, or even on us. A second thought about it could incur profound fear. But what if we are the watcher, would we turn it off or would the curiosity wins?
